Before every light, trim the wick to about 3 mm and wipe off the charred tip. Left untrimmed, a wooden wick burns low, smokes or goes out.
First light: let it burn until the whole top melts to the edge of the jar, usually 2–3 hours. Stop early and it will tunnel.
After that, keep each burn under 4 hours, away from fans and open windows.
Stop when about 1 cm of wax is left. Never leave a lit candle in an empty room.
